What this tool does
Correct the tonal curve of your images in bulk by adjusting the gamma value. Gamma correction brightens dark midtones (values below 1.0) or darkens overexposed images (values above 1.0) without clipping the highlights or shadows. Ideal for batch-correcting photos shot under inconsistent lighting conditions.
Problems it solves
- Recovering detail in underexposed product photos shot in dim conditions
- Darkening overexposed images from outdoor photography sessions
- Standardizing the tonal curve across a product catalog shot on different days
- Correcting images for display on screens with different gamma profiles
Example
Apply gamma 0.8 to brighten 200 underexposed product photos
Frequently asked questions
What gamma value should I use?
Values below 1.0 brighten midtones (useful for underexposed images). Values above 1.0 darken midtones (useful for overexposed images). Start with 0.8 to brighten or 1.3 to darken and adjust from there. 1.0 is neutral (no change).
How is gamma correction different from brightness adjustment?
Brightness adjustment shifts all pixel values by a fixed amount, which can clip highlights or crush shadows. Gamma correction applies a curve that preserves highlight and shadow detail while adjusting midtones.
What is the standard monitor gamma?
Most monitors use a gamma of 2.2 (the sRGB standard). If your images look correct in your editing software but too dark on the web, a gamma correction of around 0.45 (1/2.2) will compensate for the encoding difference.
Is this a Pro feature?
Yes — gamma correction is available on Pro and Business plans.
