What this tool does

Apply a Gaussian blur to hundreds of images in a single batch. PixelForge's bulk image blur tool is ideal for redacting sensitive information, blurring backgrounds for product photos, creating dreamy soft-focus effects, or generating placeholder images. Control the intensity with a precise sigma value.

Problems it solves

  • Blurring faces or personal details before publishing photos online
  • Creating soft background images for website hero sections
  • Generating blurred placeholder images for lazy-loading
  • Applying a consistent blur to a batch of images for editorial effect

Example

Apply a moderate Gaussian blur (sigma 5) to 100 background images

Frequently asked questions

What sigma value should I use?

Sigma 1–3 gives a subtle, soft blur. Sigma 5–10 gives a noticeable background blur effect. Sigma 20+ gives a heavy blur useful for redaction or placeholders. Start at 5 for a balanced result.

Can I blur only part of an image?

PixelForge applies a full-image blur. Selective region blurring (e.g. blurring only faces) is not currently supported.

Will blurring reduce file size?

Yes — blurred images have less high-frequency detail, which compresses more efficiently. A heavily blurred image can be significantly smaller than the original.

What is the difference between blur and compress?

Blur reduces visual sharpness by averaging nearby pixels together. Compress reduces file size by encoding pixel data more efficiently. They are independent operations — you can blur without compressing and vice versa.
