What does Flatten Transparency do?

PNG and WebP files with transparent backgrounds can't be directly converted to JPEG without handling the alpha channel. PixelForge's transparency flattener replaces transparent areas with a color of your choice — white, black, or any hex color — before conversion. Ideal for preparing images for platforms that don't support transparency.

Use cases

  • Converting PNG product images with transparent backgrounds to JPEG for Shopify
  • Flattening transparent images before uploading to platforms that show black backgrounds
  • Converting a folder of PNGs with alpha channels to JPEGs for email campaigns
  • Replacing transparency with a brand color before sharing images

Example

Flatten 50 PNG product images with white background and convert to JPEG

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?

Transparent pixels are replaced with your chosen background color. The most common choice is white (#ffffff) for product photos or black (#000000) for dark-themed designs.

Does this only work for PNG files?

It works for any image with an alpha channel, including PNG and WebP. JPEG files don't have transparency, so flattening has no effect on them.

Will the output always be JPEG?

You can choose the output format in the workspace. Flattening transparency is most useful before converting to JPEG, but you can also output PNG or WebP if needed.

Can I use a custom brand color?

Yes — enter any valid hex color code (e.g., #1a2b3c) to use your brand color as the background.
